Beyond Interfaces: The Future of Edible InteractionsDIS 2026

Edible interaction asks what interfaces become when their material, sensory qualities, and disappearance through eating all matter.

This initiative brings together HCI researchers, food designers, fabrication specialists, sensory scientists, and culinary practitioners to examine emerging edible interfaces.

The work treats edibility as more than a novel input or output. It opens questions about temporality, safety, culture, sustainability, embodiment, and the meanings people attach to making and sharing food.

What new relationships emerge when an interface is also food?

  1. A shared research space

Connecting communities that approach edible systems through different materials, practices, and values.

  2. Questions beyond interface efficiency

Foregrounding care, culture, perception, ephemerality, and ecological responsibility.

  3. A platform for future collaborations

Creating a foundation for projects and methods that cross disciplinary boundaries.
